WWE Backlash 2023: Multiple Matches announced for May 6 PLE

Bengaluru, April 22: With lesser buildups, three new matches have been confirmed for WWE Backlash 2023 during this week's episode of Smackdown. Interestingly, a couple of matches from the Raw brand were also revealed on the show.

On the April 21st episode of SmackDown, LWO member Zelina Vega told Adam Pearce that she wants to challenge Rhea Ripley for the SmackDown Women's Championship at Backlash in Puerto Rico, that's in her home country.

The match was later confirmed on WWE's official website as well as on social media accounts. With that, Vega will now compete in only the second singles championship match of her WWE career after Clash of Champions 2020.

Rhea Ripley won the blue brand women's title at WrestleMania 39 by defeating Charlotte Flair. Backlash marks the first title defense of her current reign for the first-ever true Grand Slam Champion in the women's division history of WWE.

Since winning the belt, Ripley alongside her Judgment Day partners (Dominik, Damian Priest, and Finn Balor) has been involved in a feud with LWO (Rey Mysterio, Zelina Vega, and Legado del Fantasma) which did indicate this title match.

Unlike Ripley vs. Vega, two more out-of-the-blue matches from the Raw brand have also been announced for Backlash without any compact storyline. In the first one of those, Seth Rollins will collide with the gigantic Omos.

Fresh off his mega loss at the hands of Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 39, Omos gets the chance of redemption by taking out Rollins who is willing to continue good times after sending Logan Paul back to his YouTube world at the Show of Shows.

In another title match announced for Backlash, The United States Championship will be on the line when the champion Austin Theory defends in a Triple Threat Against both Bronson Reed and Bobby Lashley.

Theory picked up the biggest win of his career at WrestleMania 39 by pinning none other than the Greatest of All-Time, John Cena and he can't possibly be happy with WWE putting him through more tests via this Triple Threat.

The 2023 WWE Backlash Premium Live Event takes place Saturday, May 6 at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Five matches for the PLE have been announced as given below:

- Brock Lesnar vs. Cody Rhodes

- The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa & The Usos) vs. Matt Riddle and Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn

- United States Championship Match: Austin Theory (c) vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Bronson Reed

- SmackDown Women's Championship Match: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Zelina Vega

- Seth Rollins vs. Omos
