WWE: Daniel Bryan wanted to face Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania before retiring

By Raja

Bengaluru, Sep 18: Daniel Bryan vs. Brock Lesnar would have been a dream match for the WWE fans if WWE could have pulled the storyline, accordingly.

However, Vince McMahon's motto to push the Roman Empire ruined the potential to the ground. In the year 2015 just prior to Wrestlemania 31, Daniel Bryan returned big time with a strong momentum.

Most of the people thought that he would end up winning the Royal Rumble and then go on to face the beast incarnate for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania 31.

But, instead the creative decided to go with Roman Reigns which turned out to be a horrible idea and embraced it with boos. In fact, Royal Rumble 2015 was the night when the crowd officially turned on Roman Reigns.

Reigns and Bryan further had a match at the Fastlane PPV but again Bryan had to lose the match as per creative planning.

The Smackdown General Manager attended an interview with The Kingston Whig-Standard where he spoke about the match and the career-threatening neck surgery that he had prior to his return.

He said, “When I came back from my neck surgery — and I have this really bad habit, it's like I'm a glutton for punishment — I was like, 'OK, I'm going to see how strong my neck is and to see if it can still take some of this stuff. "

Bryan clarified that he always wanted to take more punishment to his neck to prove to the world how brave he is.

It is the reason why WWE Universe has always loved the underdog. However, WWE hesitated to let him go against the beast keeping in mind about Bryan's health.

He concluded, “What I really wanted was, I wanted a match with Brock Lesnar, that was my thing. But I didn't want to go into the match with Brock Lesnar (having) that be the first time I ever take a German suplex (following) my neck surgery.

"So, I wrestled Luke Harper and he German suplexed me on my head and everybody was like, 'Oh my gosh, why did you do that?!' It's because I have this mentality of, 'well.

“I don't want to go in there against Brock knowing he's probably going to give me one zillion German suplexes and not having taken a German suplex before and not having known that my neck was going to be ok."
