Bengaluru, March 18: WWE continued to push the women’s revolution with another blockbuster announcement on this past edition of WWE Raw. For the first time ever, it was announced that a women’s battle royal would be held at the biggest event of the year. It was named, Fabulous Moolah Women’s Battle Royal which started controversies.

Ever since the announcement came to light, the WWE fans voiced their disappointment for associating a controversial woman’s name with this exciting contest. The step of hosting an over-the-top-rope battle royal was appreciated whereas a major fan backlash was noticed in the social media regarding this.

In case you are wondering what misdeed was conducted by this legendary woman, we will let you know a brief history. Moolah worked to improve the women’s wrestling starting from the 1950s. It was her who was responsible for bringing in a women’s division to the world of wrestling entertainment.

But, while having a creative control over the female superstars, she misused it by forcing some of the talents to be trafficked. It gave her money in return. This is an excerpt from Mad Maxine’s interview from Slam Wrestling, (courtesy uproxx.com)

“Moolah did send girls out to this guy in Arizona and pimped them out. I actually spoke to him on the phone and asked him what he was looking for. He said, 'If I’m spending all this money, you know what I want.’ That was part of Moolah’s way of making money.”

It is quite understandable that an organization like WWE would certainly not want to associate themselves with such a controversial name. This reached the limit when Snickers, the official sponsor of Wrestlemania 34 gave a press release on the situation,

“We were recently made aware of the World Wrestling Entertainment Inc’s (WWE) decision to honor a former wrestler during the upcoming WrestleMania 34 event. As a principle-based business that has long championed creating inclusive environments that encourage and empower everyone to reach their full potential, this is unacceptable. We are engaging with the WWE to express our disappointment.”

Furthermore, a petition was filed with 10000 fans’ sign on change.org making it a mainstream news as the WWE Universe wanted to remove Fabulous Moolah’s name from the battle royal. Considering the situation, WWE has officially declared that the upcoming match would no more be called by its previous name,

“After further consideration, we believe it’s best to proceed with the name 'WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal.’ What remains most important is that this historic match is part of WWE’s unwavering commitment to the Women’s Division.”

Snicker was happy after WWE took this drastic move,

“We are very pleased that WWE has decided to proceed with the name 'WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal.’”

The Youtube video for this women’s battle royal was removed from the official account of WWE. We are likely to get a new vignette and poster for it when WWE Raw comes live with its next episode. Furthermore, Stephanie McMahon thanked the fans to let their voices heard for a right cause.
