In a groundbreaking move, WWE, under TKO Group Holdings (NYSE: TKO), has successfully acquired AAA, the top-tier Mexican lucha libre promotion, in a strategic alliance with Fillip, a Mexico-based conglomerate specializing in sports and entertainment.

This significant announcement was made in Las Vegas amidst the WrestleMania 41 Saturday Countdown show. It drew the presence of high-profile individuals including WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque, Fillip's Chairman Alberto Fasja, and key figures from AAA, Marisela Peña and Dorian Roldán Peña.

They were joined by renowned WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio and El Hijo Del Vikingo. The announcement has been captured for posterity in a video available for public viewing. AAA's foundation was laid in 1992 by Antonio Peña and has since remained a family-driven entity.

Over the past 30-plus years, it has become a cradle for some of the most illustrious talent in lucha libre history, such as Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio, and Penta. These legends have been associated with AAA during various stages of their careers. Despite this transition, the Peña family will continue to play a crucial role in AAA's operations, now in collaboration with WWE and Fillip.

A Fusion of Traditions and Global Ambitions

Paul "Triple H" Levesque expressed his enthusiasm about the acquisition by highlighting AAA's esteemed cultural legacy and its fervently supportive fanbase. He remarked, "AAA has a rich cultural heritage with some of the most passionate fans in the world and it's an honor to work with the Peña family to embark on this journey."

Levesque's statement underscores the mutual respect and the anticipated synergy between WWE's global reach and AAA's storied tradition, aiming to unlock unprecedented opportunities in the future.

Echoing this sentiment, Fillip Co-Founder and Co-CEO Hugo López-Velarde shared his optimistic outlook on the partnership with WWE and TKO, emphasizing the goal to not only secure AAA's legacy for its loyal fans but also to elevate the business to greater heights. His statement reflects a shared vision among the partners for AAA's prosperous and expansive future.

Dorian Roldán Peña, AAA's General Manager, also voiced his confidence in this venture, acknowledging WWE's stature as a leading entity in the sports entertainment industry.

He emphasized the significance of entrusting AAA's legacy, nurtured over three decades as a family-operated promotion, to a global powerhouse like WWE. This merger signifies a pivotal chapter in AAA's history, promising a blend of tradition with the expansive reach of modern sports entertainment.

In addition to the acquisition, a special event titled Worlds Collide was unveiled, scheduled to take place at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 7. This event symbolizes the collaborative spirit of this partnership, showcasing the merging of diverse wrestling cultures and talents on a grand stage.

As this new chapter unfolds, the collaboration between WWE, AAA, and Fillip is poised to propel lucha libre into a new era, blending its rich heritage with the expansive reach and resources of global sports entertainment.

The commitment to preserving AAA's cultural legacy while exploring new horizons promises exciting developments for fans and stakeholders alike in the world of professional wrestling.
