WWE: Future of Chris Jericho after returning to Smackdown Live

New Delhi, Aug 5: Chris Jericho was kept off from live TV via an angle where Kevin Owens destroyed him on the post-Wrestlemania episode of Smackdown. The then United States champion delivered a brutal assault to Y2J in order to send him into a hiatus.

He was actually scheduled to go on a tour with his music band Fozzy for the month of May and June. It began after the Payback PPV and concluded in a show at Seattle, Washington on June 28th. Afterward, he appeared at WWE house shows in the eastern countries which were thought to be a one-off stint.

However, his surprise return on Smackdown Live has changed the scenario, a little bit. There was no clue available for his comeback in the rumour mill until he actually appeared on the show. Not only that, he was part of the United States Championship match, as well.

The fans literally marked out once his music hit the arena. Although he was not able to earn the US title, his return turned out to be a huge boost to the TV ratings of Smackdown Live. But, there are still some doubts regarding his future in the company.

Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer Newsletter expressed thoughts on Y2J's latest stint saying that it should not last long. The reason behind this is that his schedule with his music band, Fozzy is still intact for the later part of the year.

This is the reason why his appearance is being considered as a one-off which should not be extended. He is not going to appear in the future episodes of Smackdown or at Summerslam PPV. In fact, this was his last appearance in 2017, supposedly.

For the months of October and November, Fozzy will have another musical tour with Chris Jericho. So, there's no way that he is going to come back for an appearance at Summerslam or the other PPV event during the fall. Check out Meltzer's exact comments which described the situation better:

"I'm not sure what his schedule is right now. I mean, he's not advertised or listed for any shows going forward, but the reaction was certainly like he's back. I know he's still got concert stuff coming up, but aside from that, I don't know if he's got anything until September."
