WWE: Major upset planned for this Sunday’s Battleground PPV
Bengaluru, July 20: The Battleground PPV will be held on the 23rd July as part of the Smackdown brand. The Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia will host the show.
The main event will feature Jinder Mahal and Randy Orton for the WWE Championship inside the returning Punjabi Prison after a decade.

Apart from this one, there will be another marquee match featuring the franchise player of the WWE, John Cena who will lock horns against Rusev. Cena's return on Smackdown was interrupted by the Bulgarian Brute following which these two had a heated confrontation.
After this segment, the Smackdown General Manager has booked these two into a match at Battleground PPV. Cena and Rusev are no strangers when it comes to bitter rivalries.
Back in 2015, they had a stretched feud that stayed for over several months. So, a renewal of rivalry will happen on Smackdown.
But, the match will happen with a stipulation, a flag match at Battleground. It means that to win the contest one will not have to pin or submit his opponent. Rather, he has to pull out the flag from his corner to win the contest.
Apparently, there's a reason why this stipulation was added into the match. According to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this will help the WWE Creative to let Rusev win the match. The Cenation Leader will not have to be pinned by the Bulgarian Brute.
Previously, it was thought that John Cena will pick up a mammoth win over Rusev to pick up some momentum before a marquee match at Summerslam. But, at this point, he does not need to win to prove anything. His win will mean the burial of Rusev following the return.
On the other hand, Rusev is entering the blue brand for the very first time. He is a younger athlete with his bonafide heel persona he will continue performing for the company much longer. So, at this point, he really needs to pick up the win to keep the momentum in his favor.
The loss will not hamper the PPV return of the 16-time world champion since he already is a veteran and faced this kind of situation before.
Going forward, Cena might move to Raw to start another feud for the biggest event of summer in the month of August.
