WWE NXT Battleground 2023: New Title Match announced alongside Weaponized Steel Cage Match

Bengaluru, May 24: Two of the touted future star powers from the NXT Women's roster will rightfully go into war over the NXT Women's Championship, this weekend at NXT Battleground 2023 in the finale of a championship tournament.

In the wake of former champion Indi Hartwell's relinquishment of the NXT Women's Title, WWE set up an eight-woman tournament to determine a new champion. The semifinal lineups for last night's NXT stood: Tiffany Stratton vs. Roxanne Perez & Lyra Valkyria vs. Cora Jade.

In the opening contest of the May 23 episode of NXT, Valkyria defeated Jade to book herself in the final. Jade had early offenses in the match but Valkyria ultimately fought back and delivered a roundhouse kick for the pin-fall win.

Then in the main-event match of NXT, Stratton, and Perez battled for the only vacant spot in the tournament final. After a back-and-forth going, Stratton powered her way with a Spinebuster followed by the Prettiest Moonsault Ever to secure the W.

Stratton and Valkyria then stood over the vacant title to close out this week's NXT as it was announced that the two stars have officially been booked to compete in the match over the vacant NXT Women's Championship at Battleground.

Valkyria was attacked by Jade with a Kendo Stick after their match which created an injury storyline heading into Battleground. This keeps Stratton in the favorite spot to emerge as the new championship winner, this weekend.

On the flip side, Valkyria should move into a fresh feud with Jade after the latter intentionally took shots at her knees. The other semi-finalist, Roxanne Perez was also beaten down by an unknown, masked assailant on the entrance ramp after the main event.

WWE NXT Battleground 2023 Premium Live Event takes place this Sunday, May 28, 2023, at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts. The confirmed match card for the PLE is given below:

- NXT Championship: Carmelo Hayes (c) vs. Bron Breakker

- NXT Tag Team Championship Match: Gallus (c) vs. Creed Brothers

- NXT Women's Championship Tournament Final: Tiffany Stratton vs. Lyra Valkyria

- Heritage Cup Match: Noam Dar vs. Dragon Lee

- North American Championship Triple Threat Match: Wes Lee (c) vs. Joe Gacy vs. Tyler Bate

Apart from Battleground's full card, a grudge match under a stipulated environment for next week's NXT has been announced between the friend-turned-bitter-rival pair of former Toxic Attraction members - Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne.

As seen last night, the former tag champs were involved in a verbal encounter after which Jayne challenged Dolin to a steel cage match. Dolin not only accepted but she also added the weaponized stipulation into the contest.

The bad blood between these started brewing from February 2023 onward after Jayne betrayed Dolin during their appearance on Bayley's talk show, "Ding Dong, Hello!" with a vicious attack to end their almost two-year-long partnership.

Moving on they competed in two singles contests with the score being 1-1 at this stage. Dolin emerged victorious at the NXT Roadblock special in March while Jayne defeated Dolin on the May 2 episode of the weekly episode of NXT.
