WWE NXT Heatwave 2023: Title Match, Mixed Tag Team Match & More Announced

Bengaluru, August 16: After establishing himself as one of the strong babyface champions via his North American Championship reign, Wes Lee is now out to prove his potential in the elite league when he will challenge for the NXT Championship at NXT Heatwave 2023.

In the main event of this week's NXT, Lee bested Dijak in a number-one contender's match to earn his rights for the top title of the WWE's third brand. The win wasn't clean as Lee was assisted by a ringside appearance from Eddy Thorpe.

This allowed Lee to take a shot at Dijak and then flatten the former Retribution member with a corkscrew senton to pick up the pin-fall win and get a title shot from NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes on next week's Heatwave special.

After the match, Lee and Hayes also had a face-to-face meeting in the ring as the challenger vowed to prove his doubters wrong, next week. Before Heatwave, Hayes last defended his title against Ilja Dragunov at Bash.

At NXT Heatwave, WWE Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley will be in action in a tag team match where she will team up with on-screen boyfriend Dominik Mysterio against the team of Lyra Valkyria and Dragon Lee.

Last week on NXT, Dominik Mysterio retained his NXT North American Title against Dragon Lee in the presence of Rey Mysterio. After the match, Ripley and Dominik wanted to get physical with Rey but Valkyria interfered.

The young NXT Superstar stunned Ripley with the Black Mass kick while Dragon Lee also attacked Dominik to initiate the storyline featuring these four. The match was then confirmed after Ripley and Dominik issued a challenge, this week.

Another main roster superstar Baron Corbin will also be seen in action at Heatwave against Von Wagner. The two exchanged verbal comments on NXT before Wagner challenged The Lone Wolf in a match to set the bout up.

WWE NXT Heatwave 2023 takes place next Wednesday at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida which will be a themed weekly episode. The current match card scheduled for the show is given below:

- WWE Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio vs. Lyra Valkyra and Dragon Lee
