WWE NXT started its journey on The CW through last night’s season premiere episode from the All-State Arena in Chicago, Illinois with a brand new NXT Champion being crowned in the presence of the hometown hero CM Punk.
In the main event of the October 1 episode of WWE NXT, Trick Williams defeated Ethan Page (c) with CM Punk serving as the Special Guest Referee to win the NXT Championship for the second time in his career.

The finishing sequence of the match saw Page hitting a Go To Sleep on Williams, Punk’s finishing move right in front of him but Williams kicked out of it. Page then went for his own maneuver Ego’s Edge but Williams escaped.

After the match, Page got back up to his feet and Punk met him with a GTS. NXT ended with Williams celebrating with the NXT Championship while Punk distributed free pizzas to the audience.
Before dropping the NXT title, Page had held it for 86 days after defeating Williams, Je’Von Evans, and Shawn Spears in a fatal-4-way at NXT Heatwave on July 7. Williams was never pinned in that match and he’s since been looking for a rematch.
