WWE NXT Spring Breakin’ 2023: Main Event Match and more announced

Bengaluru, April 12: The next special episode under the NXT banner in WWE will take place in two weeks' time in the form of the 2023 Spring Breakin'. As announced in the latest NXT episode, the main event match for the evening has now been declared.

Carmelo Hayes will go through his first NXT Championship defense at NXT Spring Breakin' in that match and his challenger has also been revealed during the April 11 episode of NXT.

Grayson Waller won a fatal-4-way number one contender's encounter by defeating Dragon Lee, JD McDonagh, and Duke Hudson to earn an opportunity at Hayes' title. Waller pinned Hudson after sending Lee out of the ring to secure the victory.

After the match, Hayes came out on the ramp to have a stare-down with his next challenger. Following this segment, the match between the two was declared for Spring Breakin', an episode set for April 25.

This will be Hayes' third attempt at winning the NXT Championship in 2023. He previously lost twice to the former NXT Champion Bron Breakker at New Year's Evil and Vengeance Day after wiinning the Iron Survivor Challenge in December.

Most recently, Waller had a feud with WWE NXT's Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels, producing a match with Johnny Gargano at Stand & Deliver which ended in a losing effort.

Waller vs. Hayes is the only match announced for the 2023 NXT Spring Breakin'. In addition, two more matches have been made official for the April 18 episode over the mid-card championships of the white-and-gold brand.

In the first match, NXT North American Champion Wes Lee will defend his title against Charlie Dempsey, the son of NXT pioneer and former WWE veteran William Regal, in a first-ever matchup. This also marks Dempsey's first title shot.

As for Lee, he has been the NXT North American Champion since winning the then-vacant title in a fatal-5-way ladder match at the 2022 Halloween Havoc event. His latest successful title defense came on the April 4 episode of NXT against Axiom.

In the other confirmed title match, NXT Tag Team Champions Gallus - Mark Coffey and Wolfgang will defend their titles against The Creed Brothers (Julius and Brutus Creed) and The Dyad (Jagger Reid and Rip Fowler) in a Triple Threat.

Coffey and Wolfgang have been holding the NXT Tag Team Championships since February when they defeated the former champions The New Day - Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods, Elton Prince & Kit Wilson, and Andre Chase & Duke Hudson at NXT Vengeance Day in a fatal-4-way.

Also, next week, former NXT Women's Champion Roxanne Perez will return to action for the first time since dropping her title to Indi Hartwell at Stand & Deliver. The Prodigy will face Zoey Stark, trying to gain back some momentum.
