WWE NXT: Surprise Return Spoils First Title Shot for Giulia at CW Premiere Episode

The premiere episode of WWE NXT on The CW opened with the much-anticipated NXT Women’s Title Match where the new sensation Giulia challenged the champion only to come up short thanks to an unprecedented homecoming.

Shawn Michaels and Triple H inaugurated the newly designed Men’s and Women’s Championships to open things on the October 1 episode of NXT right after which we headed to the kick-off match for the latter belt.

After a back-and-forth battle, Roxanne Perez (c) defeated Giulia to retain the NXT Women’s Championship with help from someone covered in a Hoodie but later that mystery persona was revealed to be Cora Jade.

During a point in the match, Perez slid back out of the ring and grabbed her championship. The referee was distracted as he was trying to prohibit Perez. Jade came running out and took out Giulia with a future shock DDT on the other side of the ring.

Giulia was further sent back into the ring as Perez capitalized by hitting a second Pop Rox on her to secure the pinfall victory. As Perez was celebrating, Jade unmasked herself and mouthed that she made a return to her city.

Thus, Jade had a perfect homecoming at the All-State Arena in Chicago, Illinois after being off the NXT television since January of this year after suffering a torn ACL which also required surgery in the following weeks to fix things.

Interestingly, the injury took place just after her return from another injury in late 2023. During the hiatus, Jade was gunning for the NXT Women’s Title held by Perez but she eventually helped her retain it on her return night.

Later in a backstage segment on NXT in a video posted on WWE’s digital media channels, an uneasy alliance between Jade and Perez was teased with Giulia appearing to be their common enemy.

Jade and Perez previously used to be NXT women’s tag team champions before Jade turned on her partner and abandoned the title to turn heel. Perez later captured the NXT women’s title at Stand & Deliver by defeating Lyra Valkyria.
