WWE NXT: Title defense and 25-man battle royal set for June 18 episode

Heading into the next stop Heatwave premium live event, WWE NXT will deliver another packed episode, next week where we will get to know the new challenger for NXT Championship. Plus, a first-time championship defense will also be there.

In the opening match of NXT Battleground 2024, this past weekend Kelani Jordan defeated Sol Ruca, Lash Legend, Fallon Henley, Jaida Parker, and "Michin" Mia Yim in a Ladder Match to become the inaugural NXT Women's North American Champion.

As announced on this week's NXT, Jordan will now go through her first title defense against Michin on the June 18 NXT episode. Michin was granted the title shot by NXT General Manager Ava in a backstage segment, last night.

"Michin" Mia Yim defeated Jaida Parker in a singles contest on NXT to gain back some momentum by her side. On this week's SmackDown, she will be in attendance to take on the 2024 Queen of the Ring winner Nia Jax.

The finishing sequence of the NXT Women's North American Championship Match saw Jordan neutralizing Michin with a split-legged moonsault before unhooking the title for the win. Hence, it makes sense that Michin gets the first title shot from the champion.

The NXT Women's North American Championship was first revealed at NXT Stand & Deliver PLE on April 6 during the WrestleMania 40 weekend. The first winner of the belt was crowned at Battleground 2024 while the first title defense will go down, next week.

Speaking of the next episode, a battle royal will also be there on the card to decide the new number-one contender for the NXT Championship held by Trick Williams. 25 talents will be a part of the match but no specific name was announced.

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes announced this 25-man battle royal during his NXT appearance, last night noting that wrestlers "from other locker rooms" may also take part in the match, teasing that TNA stars could also enter the fray.

Trick retained his NXT Title in the main event of Battleground premium live event against former Ethan Page in what marked the former AEW Star's debut match. His next title defense is likely going down at Heatwave PLE.
