WWE NXT: Update on No Mercy PPV matches and next week’s card

Bengaluru, August 30: WWE NXT continues to be the new home for main roster superstars from Raw and Smackdown as we head toward No Mercy. There were quite a few surprise top appearances on the latest episode of WWE's white-and-gold brand to commence new angles.

Former NXT UK Champion and current Brawling Brutes member Butch (FKA Pete Dunne in NXT) was one of the latest entrants on this week's NXT as he defeated Charlie Dempsey in the first match of the NXT Global Heritage Cup Invitational tournament.

The eight-man tournament began with Akira Tozawa, Tyler Bate, Butch, and Charlie Dempsey announced for Pool A, while Joe Coffey, Duke Hudson, Axiom, and Nathan Frazer will be a part of Pool B.

Winners of both the blocks will face each other on the September 26 episode of NXT and the winner of that match will receive a shot at the undisputed NXT Heritage Cup on September 30 NXT PPV event No Mercy in Bakersfield, California.

Currently, the NXT Heritage Cup Champion is Noam Dar and he's enjoying his third reign with it. After the NXT UK brand was dissolved, Dar arrived on NXT with the cup to make it a part of the mainstay brand.

The Street Profits - Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins made a surprise appearance backstage, this week on NXT as they approached the reigning NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes and NXT Tag Team Champions The Family (Channing Lorenzo and Tony D'Angelo) for a conversation.

While the intentions of the newly turned heels are unknown at this point, it seems that the two Smackdown Superstars will be coming after the tag team championships to possibly set up a match at No Mercy PPV.

While this fresh angle will continue next week, Dominik Mysterio and Rhea Ripley have also been booked for a special segment. Dragon Lee and Mustafa Ali will go at each other, again and Dirty Dom has been appointed as the special guest referee.

The assumption is that the winner of Lee vs. Ali will be declared the new challenger for the NXT North American Championship whom Dominik will face at No Mercy. Previously, Dom successfully defended the title at Bash against both Ali and Lee in a Triple Threat.

Apart from Dom's appearance, two more main roster WWE Superstars Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo will come back to TV as a tag team on next week's NXT. The full match card for the September 5 episode is given below:

- NXT Women's Championship: Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Kiana James

- No DQ match: Bron Breakker vs. Von Wagner

- Dragon Lee vs. Mustafa Ali (Dominik Mysterio to serve as special guest referee)

- Ilja Dragunov vs. Oro Mensah

- Tyler Bate vs. Dabba Kato

- Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo to return
