WWE NXT Vengeance Day 2024: Big heel-turn; New Dusty Cup winners crowned

One of the much-anticipated matches of WWE NXT's latest premium live event Vengeance Day was contested for the NXT Championship between Trick Williams and Ilja Dragunov which turned out to be a slobberknocker.

But in the end, it was a heel turn that took all the spotlight to close out the PLE. One of the cornerstone figures of the current NXT roster Carmelo Hayes turned on his long-term friend Trick Williams to shock the WWE Universe.

In the main event of NXT Vengeance Day 2024, Ilja Dragunov (c) defeated Trick Williams to retain his title, a match that was in the making for a couple of months due to Trick's Iron Survivor Challenge Win at NXT Deadline PLE.

During the match, Hayes turned out to be a constant distraction as he tried to get involved in Trick's favor. But he was accidentally shoved by Trick. Hayes still climbed on the apron at a later point in the match to distract the referee.

Trick accidentally knocked out the referee during this point. Trick also managed to deliver the Trick knee finisher but there was no referee to count the pin-fall. In the end, Dragunov hit the Torpedo Moscow finisher to secure the win.

Following the match, Hayes turned on Williams and brutally attacked the injured knee from the match, utilizing a steel chair multiple times. This would probably set up a match between the two at NXT Roadblock scheduled for March.

In another big match at Vengeance Day 2024, Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin defeated Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams in the Men's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finale match to earn a future NXT Tag Team Championship match.

After Williams hit a neckbreaker on Corbin, Breakker lined him up for a spear. As Williams retreated, Hayes was planted by the devastating maneuver from Breakker and got easily pinned by the former NXT Champion, thereafter.

With this win, Breakker and Corbin will now get a championship opportunity to the tag title belt held by The Family on NXT. There's no update on when the match would happen but Roadblock in March should be the likely place to witness it.
