WWE Raw: Controversial Title Match finish sets up WrestleMania 40 bout?

A loaded episode of Monday Night Raw aired this week which also served as the go-home episode for Elimination Chamber 2024. In one of the marquee matches of the night, the mid-card title of the red brand was successfully defended in a controversial finish.

Gunther defeated Jey Uso to retain the Intercontinental Championship in the main event of WWE Raw. Jey had Gunther beaten after hitting his opponent with multiple spears and a pendant Uso Frog Splash.

But Jimmy Uso appeared at ringside and rang the match bell which prevented the referee from counting the third pin-fall. Thus, an absolute display of a classic in-ring showdown was interfered and Gunther hit a powerbomb on Jey to pick up the win.

Once Gunther retained his title, Jimmy attacked Jey after the match and shouted "I am always the big brother". Jimmy then hit Jey with two Uso splashes to end the show to tease the Brother vs. Brother matchup at WrestleMania 40.

The Jimmy Uso vs. Jey Uso singles match has been in the pipeline for a while now after Jimmy cost Jey at SummerSlam 2023 in a Tribal Combat where Roman Reigns retained the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in the main event of the PLE.

Heading into this week's Raw, WWFOldSchool already hinted that Jimmy will interfere and try to stop Jey from winning this match which will then lead to Jey vs. Jimmy announcement at WrestleMania 40.

As of now, WWE hasn't confirmed anything regarding this match as the storyline will further unfold on WWE television following Elimination Chamber 2024. Both the Usos aren't booked to appear at the PLE in Australia.

Jimmy further interfered in the opening match of Raw, this week between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre before Solo finally nailed Rhodes with the Samoan Spike, allowing McIntyre to hit the Claymore Kick to secure the big win against the Wrestlemania 40 main eventer.
