Backlash will be the first WWE premium live event in the post-WrestleMania 40 season set for next month. In the latest episode of Monday Night Raw, the first match for the upcoming PLE has been confirmed and it will be a title match.
It was confirmed that Damian Priest will defend the World Heavyweight Title against Jey Uso at Backlash. The announcement comes after Uso became the new number-one contender on last week's Raw by winning a fatal-4-way match.

In a backstage segment on WWE Raw, Balor told Priest that they should aim to get back the tag team titles. But Priest said Balor should focus instead on beating Uso on the show before he teaches Uso about the word pain at Backlash.
Later that night, Uso defeated Balor and Priest appeared on the apron to share a staredown with him. This allowed Balor, JD McDonagh, and Dominik Mysterio to attack Uso but Uso managed to fend them off and leave through the crowd.
Damian Priest became the new World Heavyweight Champion last weekend during the Night Two of WrestleMania 40. He cashed in the 2023 Money in the Bank contract right after Drew McIntyre won the title from Seth Rollins.
CM Punk attacked McIntyre, making Priest the way for the Money in the Bank cash-in. Now, Priest is set for his first championship defense at Backlash PLE which takes place in Lyon, France on May 4.
In more news from Raw, the red brand Tag Team Champions The Miz and R-Truth were presented with new title belts in an in-ring ceremony. The authority figures Adam Pearce & WWE CCO Paul "Triple H" Levesque did the honor by presenting the new belts to the champions.
Later on Raw, DIY's Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano defeated The New Day's Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods, and Julius Creed & Brutus Creed of The Creed Brothers in a triple threat match to become the number one contenders to the new World Tag Team titles.
