Bengaluru, August 15: GUNTHER is on his way to becoming the longest-reigning champion with the prestigious Intercontinental Title. But before reaching the milestone, he could have possibly been booked for the final roadblock on next week's WWE Raw.
On that coming night, GUNTHER will defend the Intercontinental Championship against Chad Gable who previously earned his shot at the championship by winning a fatal-4-way number-one contender's match on the August 7 episode of Raw.

This week, Gable and GUNTHER traded barbs with each other with bold verbal statements as well as decisive victories against members of their respective rival factions before finally heading onto the expected title match.
While Gable defeated GUNTHER's Imperium stablemate, Giovanni Vinci on Raw, the Intercontinental Champion responded immediately by challenging and defeating Gable's Alpha Academy tag team partner Otis in an impromptu matchup on the spot.
Later that night, GUNTHER blamed Ludwig Kaiser for Giovanni Vinci's loss because Ludwig was more concerned about getting the girl from Alpha Academy - Maxxine Dupri rather than helping out his cohort Vinci.
GUNTHER then said that he's going to defend the Intercontinental Championship against Chad Gable on next week's Raw. The current assumption is that a win in this match could set the path free for GUNTHER to become the longest-reigning champion.
For the record, GUNTHER has held the Intercontinental Title for more than 430 days, the second-longest reign in the history of the title. His reign started while being on Smackdown as he defeated Ricochet on June 10 of last year.
Currently, GUNTHER is about 25 days away from breaking Honky Tonk Man's record for the longest Intercontinental Title reign. The actual date to surpass that mark would be after WWE's next premium live event, Payback on Saturday, September 2.
It's possible that GUNTHER vs. Gable would be re-booked for Payback with raised stakes so that the upcoming accolade of the reigning champion could be highlighted, and thereby stretch up the feud that began on the July 31 episode of Raw.
On that night, Gable survived a five-minute challenge against GUNTHER before getting defeated in a longer contest. But his efforts were praised while the growing popularity of Alpha Academy also helped him to get booked into a championship program.
