WWE Rumour: Chris Jericho To Relinquish His United States Title

By: Raja

Bengaluru, Mar 6: Chris Jericho had become the United States champion beating Roman Reigns for the title in the month of January.

Since then, he has successfully defended it against Reigns and Sami Zayn. But, going by WWE's rules he might just have to surrender the title in near future.

According to the WWE rulebook, a reigning champion must defend his title in a span of 30 days. If he or she is unable to do that then the title should be forfeited at the earliest.

Jericho has defended his title on February 11th, 2017 at a house show in Anchorage, Alaska. Two days later he was present on Raw to celebrate the 'Festival of Friendship' with Kevin Owens.

The ending of the segment witnessed a brutal assault to Jericho by Owens upon which he was sidelined for an indefinite time. He also sought his revenge on Owens at Fastlane.

But, there's no confirmation as of when he would defend his title, next. Hence, as per the rulebook, Jericho will have to relinquish the US title on the March 13th episode of Monday Night Raw.

The speculations regarding the same can be wiped out if only Jericho makes an appearance on Raw and plans to defend it against somebody.

Considering that he was attacked for a second time at the hands of Owens at a house show in Germany, the chances of the same is less for now.

This is the same reason why the former Smackdown women's champion Naomi had to forfeit her title on the blue brand. She tore her MCL and there's no certainty as of when she'd return.

There were exceptions to this rule, as well. When Brock Lesnar held the WWE championship, he did not defend it on a regular basis and the clause was certainly overlooked.

Recently, WWE is trying to bring the clauses more into public eyes. Hence, they will soon put it on sale in WWEShop.com. It will also be interesting to see how the US title scenario stands for Wrestlemania.
