WWE Rumour: Kevin Owens to drop Universal title due to poor ratings

By Raja

Bengaluru, Sep 23: WWE Universe has well accepted the fact that Kevin Owens became the Universal Champion three weeks ago. He's been a consistent performer since debuting in WWE.

The prizefighter defeated John Cena in his first match at the Elimination Chamber in 2015. Then he went on to feature in a record 12 straight PPVs in a debut year equaling the record of the Undertaker.

However, Raw has been beaten by Smackdown Live from the get going. Especially, last week, we have seen a massive fall in Raw ratings since the last twenty years. The beginning of this year's football season (NFL) has been the reason for the same. Raw will continue to face the odds on Mondays starting from now.

The creative thinks that apparently, the reason behind this is certainly Kevin Owens' title reign. When Dean Ambrose failed to draw the ratings on Smackdown as champion, they gave the championship belt to AJ Styles. They likely to do the same with Owens too, and hence Seth Rollins is the favorite to win the WWE Universal title at the Clash of Champions PPV.

Owens was booked to be a main event star from the get going. However, it was on hold by Vince McMahon. When finally the day came, he told Vince McMahon that he would not regret the decision.

But now the creative does think that the crowd did not like the way that Owens was handed the championship by Triple H. By the looks, though, KO has got one of the biggest pop in recent history despite being a heel.

If WWE does take away the title from Owens at Clash of Champions it will be an injustice since he is getting to prove himself, the least time. So, instead, they should keep faith on Owens by just hoping that ratings will increase. It will be interesting what does WWE decide to do with Owens after Clash of Champions.

It should be noted that if KO loses the title bout then it will affect his creditability as the top Raw superstar and he is not expected to be seen in the title picture, for a while.
