WWE Rumour: Winner of Mae Young Classic will become new NXT Women’s Champion

New Delhi, Sep 11: As reported earlier, the longest reigning NXT Women’s Champion in the history has now become the former one.

She competed in a match against Ember Moon for the championship at the NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III event. Despite all the resistance from the contender, Asuka was able to make her tap out and retain the titles.

But, she fell victim of a nasty throw by her opponent that caused her an injury. This was the reason she was provided medical attention following the show stellar match. As per the doctor’s reports, the concussion was picked up in the collarbone portion which would not allow her to wrestle for six to eight weeks.

This was the unofficial news of Asuka ending her championship reign in NXT whereas the official handover of the title took place at a recent taping. The entire female roster of NXT came out to give her a standing ovation when the Empress of Tomorrow vacated the title in the presence of NXT GM and Triple H.

Now, ever since this took place, there are some serious concerns over the future of the prestigious title which was held by Charlotte, Paige, Bayley, Sasha Banks and certainly, Asuka. The previous planning keeping the reigning champion intact in her position for a long time was dismissed due to the injury.

So, as per the backup planning, the creative team might take help of the Mae Young Classic tournament. According to the reports of Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer, the winner of the knockout tournament started on the WWE Network might get a jackpot to enter the world of the WWE as she might be named the NXT Women’s Champion, itself.

The WWE officials are considering this as a better option since there was no one really worthy of taking away Asuka’s championship during her tenure. So, a fresh champion on the scene would be much appreciated.

This would also be right considering that the officials always wanted to do something he around this tournament featuring 32 women. The winner will be given a WWE contract by virtue of which she will continue performing on NXT. Plus, she will receive a designed belt, too.
