WWE Smackdown Live results with video highlights: August 1, 2017

Bengaluru, August 2: This episode of Smackdown Live was supposed to be a special one with a first-ever matchup announced to happen.

The internet-wrestling community was buzzing all week long with the John Cena Vs Nakamura match. Plus, the United States title was also on the line on this edition.

Check out the results from the show hosted by the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio:

The show opened up with the United States Championship rematch from last week as Owens looked to regain the title. The match ended in yet another controversy as the contender's shoulder was up during the count. The referee never saw it and called for the bell declaring Styles as the winner.

This made Owens furious as he went to confront Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon about the outcome. The GM then booked another 'Styles Vs Owens' match for the US title at Summerslam PPV. Shane McMahon will be the guest referee in the fourth edition of the match.

The Usos were out next to deliver a heel promo about how they made an impact last week. They ambushed The New Day from behind on the ramp by virtue of which the champions were forced to be absent from the show. The contenders for tag titles belittled the champions again before leaving the ring.

Sami Zayn had a matchup against Aiden English on the show. The match witnessed a shocking outcome as Aiden pulled off the win with a roll up. Zayn was literally frustrated with this which later increased even more as Mike and Maria Kanellis came out to celebrate his loss on the ramp.

Rusev had a match with Chad Gable on the show. This turned out to be an interesting affair as the former American Alpha member was able to show big resistance against the Bulgarian Brute. In the end, Rusev picked up the win via a superkick and locking in the Accolade on his opponent.

After the match, Rusev's celebration and heel promo was cut short by a returning Randy Orton. He answered Rusev's demand to get a good opponent on Smackdown. Orton demanded a match against Rusev at Summerslam and finished off the segment with an RKO.

Naomi and Becky Lynch teamed up in a tag team contest against Carmella and Natalya. Despite Nattie being in control, Carmella decided to tag herself inside the match and ran into a submission move from Naomi. The Money in the Bank holder tapped out to lose the contest.

John Cena and Shinsuke Nakamura locked horns in the dream main event of a match. Cena tried hard to emerge victorious by hitting two Attitude Adjustments on the Artist.

But, Nakamura kicked out and connected with the Kinshasa to pick up the win and become the number one contender for the WWE Championship.
