WWE SmackDown: New Champions crowned; Matches booked for July 12 episode
New champions were crowned on a raucous edition of WWE SmackDown, this week from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada as DIY finally got to capture the tag team titles on the Money in the Bank go-home edition.
In the main event match of the July 5 edition of SmackDown, DIY's Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa defeated A-Town Down Under's Grayson Waller & Austin Theory to win the WWE Tag Team titles.

DIY hit a Shatter Machine but couldn't score the pin. After delivering the Meeting in the Middle move, Gargano almost pinned Waller, but Theory got his tag partner's foot under the bottom rope to break things.
Gargano put Waller in the Gargano Escape, but Theory again interrupted to save his partner. Ciampa came from behind and applied a Sicilian Stretch on Theory after which Waller finally tapped to Gargano in the match finish.
With this, Gargano and Ciampa have now picked up their first title win after arriving on the main roster. The win also came at the same venue where they initially won the NXT Tag Team Championships during their run on NXT.
WWE's chief content officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque mentioned the same in a social media post that DIY's Tag title victory came in the same building where the duo defeated The Revival (currently FTR in AEW) at NXT TakeOver: Toronto in 2016.
Waller & Theory had been the tag champs since WrestleMania 40, where they captured the gold in a ladder match contested for two sets of Tag Titles that used to be dubbed as only the Undisputed Tag Team Championship.
In that match, Waller & Theory won the SmackDown Tag Team Titles while The Miz & R-Truth won the Raw Tag titles. Later, those belts were renamed to be WWE Tag Team titles and the World Tag Team titles, respectively.
In more news from SmackDown, Michin will face Nia Jax in a match set for next week's episode. The match buildup was provided through a backstage segment where Michin saved the WWE Women's Champion Bayley from an attack from the reigning Queen of the Ring.
Another tag team match has also been booked for the July 12 episode of WWE SmackDown which takes place from the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts and the currently confirmed match card for the show goes as follows:
- Nia Jax vs. Michin
- Baron Corbin & Apollo Crews vs. Angel & Berto
