LA Knight now has his first championship challenger set in his maiden title reign in the WWE that started at SummerSlam. Santos Escobar earned a shot at his United States Title in a match that's yet to be announced.
On the post-SummerSlam edition of SmackDown, Santos Escobar defeated Andrade after interference from Carmelo Hayes to become the new number-one Contender for Knight's US Title. Andrade was this close to winning the match after connecting with a moonsault.

But Hayes hovered onto the apron and pulled Escobar out of danger as Elektra Lopez distracted the referee. The confusing finishing sequence allowed Escobar to roll up Andrade for the pin-fall win.
Just before this match on SmackDown, LA Knight came out for a celebration over his United States Championship win after he defeated Logan Paul last weekend at SummerSlam in what also marked his first-ever title win on the WWE main roster.
Escobar interrupted the session and said Knight winning the title was just an opening act to his own championship reign with the US Title. Knight said the follow-up number-one contender's match doesn't matter much as everyone knows that it's his game.
A few weeks ago, LA Knight defeated Logan Paul and Escobar in a three-way match to advance in the Money in the Bank ladder match. After that July PLE titular match, Knight finally got the US title match against Paul at SummerSlam.
Apart from Knight, The Bloodline's Tama Tonga & Jacob Fatu are also set to receive their new challengers over the tag titles, next week as The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) will face DIY (Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa) in another contenders' match.
A celebration for the new WWE Women's Champion Nia Jax has also been announced for the coming edition of SmackDown, with Ms. Money in the Bank & Jax's bestie Tiffany Stratton hosting the segment.
The August 16 episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown takes place at the Kia Arena in Orlando, Florida where multiple other matches have also been announced alongside Roman Reigns' presence. The current match card for the show goes as follows:
