WWE SmackDown: Update From Women’s United States Championship Tournament

In two weeks' time, WWE will crown its first-ever United States Champion from the women's division on the SmackDown roster. The tournament continues on a weekly schedule, eyeing a culmination at Saturday Night's Main Event in December.

The semifinal lineup for the Women's United States title tournament is almost set following this week's episode of SmackDown where Michin' advanced by defeating Piper Niven and Lash Legend in a triple threat match.

During the finishing sequence of the match, Chelsea Green came out in an attempt to help her tag team partner Niven join her in the semis. However, B-Fab, a current rival of Green chased her to neutralize her at ringside.

This distraction allowed Legend to execute her Lash Extension finish on Niven, but Michin' came from behind and hit her with a senton to score the win. Michin' has thus joined her bitter rival Green in the semis.

Legend was never scheduled to compete in the United States title tournament, as Jade Cargill was originally part of last night's triple threat match. But the one-half of the women's tag team champions was found unconscious on last week's SmackDown.

Cargill was thrown into a car's windshield by an anonymous person in a kayfabe attack to cover up her real-life injury. Heading into SmackDown, Michin' & Niven's opponent was promoted as a mystery competitor who turned out to be Legend from NXT.

Next week on SmackDown, the final opening round match of the United States title tournament will take place where Naomi will battle Tiffany Stratton and Elektra Lopez in another triple threat to determine the final semifinal participant of the tournament.

As noted above, Chelsea Green has already reached the semifinals, where she will take on Bayley. The final match of the tournament will take place at Saturday Night's Main event on December 14 in Long Island, New York.

The December episode of Friday Night SmackDown takes place at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the below-mentioned United States title tournament match is the only bout confirmed by the WWE for the upcoming show:
