WWE SmackDown: US Title Tournament Semis Set; New Champion Crowned

In a week, WWE will crown the first-ever Women's United States Champion, culminating an ongoing tournament that continued on the latest episode of SmackDown, setting the two semifinal matches for next week to determine the final lineup.

On the December 6 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Ms. Money In The Bank Tiffany Stratton defeated Elektra Lopez and Naomi in a Triple Threat Match to advance in the Women's United States Championship tournament.

The match finish saw Tiffany connecting with a semi-Swanton on both her opponents. She sent Naomi out of the ring before connecting with the Prettiest Moonsault Ever on Lopez to gain the pin-fall win.

This was the final opening contest match in the US title tournament with the two semifinals - Tiffany Stratton vs. Michin and Bayley vs. Chelsea Green set for next Friday's episode of WWE SmackDown on the USA Network.

The two winners of these matchups will advance to battle in the finale for the inaugural women's United States Championship, a night after that on Saturday Night's Main Event on NBC on Saturday, December 14.

In more news from SmackDown, someone attacked The Street Profits backstage and therefore they were unable to compete for the WWE tag team titles. This led to #DIY (Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano) getting the opportunity to face the champions, Motor City Machine Guns, instead.

Later the night, #DIY (Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano) defeated Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley) (c) to win the WWE Tag Team Championship and it came after Gargano's heel turn midway through the match.

The finish of the match saw the two challengers continue arguing just like in recent weeks, leading Ciampa to exit the ring, Gargano suddenly low-blowed Chris Sabin which was followed by a superkick on Shelley.

It was ultimately revealed that Gargano - Ciampa spat was just a ruse as DIY then hit their finisher on Sabin for the win, and in the process the duo had now secured their second WWE Tag Team title win.
