WWE SummerSlam 2023 date and location officially announced

Bengaluru, February 8: Continuing the recent tradition, WWE's biggest event of summer, SummerSlam will be emanating from a football stadium, this time from a venue that previously had the pleasure of hosting WrestleMania.

As confirmed by the WWE, the 2023 SummerSlam premium live event is headed to Detroit, Michigan, this summer. The show is slated to happen on Saturday, August 5 from the Ford Field stadium.

This venue serves as the home of the NFL's Detroit Lions. It has the capacity of approximately hosting 65,000 people suggesting that this could become the biggest SummerSlam in history in terms of attendance number.

Here are a few more scoops around the latest upcoming edition of SummerSlam:

- The Ford Field previously hosted WrestleMania 23 in 2007, main-evented by John Cena and WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels.

But the event is best known for the infamous Battle of the Billionaires (Vince McMahon and Donald Trump) which appeared to be one of the biggest box office successes as well as a major mainstream attention-seeker in the company's history.

- This will be the first time that SummerSlam will take place in the actual city of Detroit, Michigan. Previously, the 1993 installment went down in the Detroit area, that's Auburn Hills, Michigan.

- As noted above, this will be the third consecutive year that SummerSlam will be held inside a football stadium. The 2021 edition took place at the Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada while last year the Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee hosted the show.
