WWE Summerslam 2023: Two big matches could be off; current projected PLE card
Bengaluru, July 21: WWE's biggest event of the summer, SummerSlam 2023 is approaching closer and there's a lot of competition among the top superstars to get onto the card. Unlike previous years, there will only be a limited number of matches on the show.
This could reportedly end up scrapping a couple of big matches from the show. Previous reports claimed that WWE was planning to reunite former NXT Tag Team Champions Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano, together known as DIY (Do It Yourself) for SummerSlam.

The reunion was supposed to happen as both these two were picked as red brand roster members during the Draft 2023. However, Gargano is still missing from WWE TV and thus the planned tag title match featuring them, has been dropped.
Now, Ringside News indicates that the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn might themselves miss SummerSlam 2023 as they have already defended their titles on a recent episode of Raw.
A likely rematch at SummerSlam against Damian Priest and Dominik Mysterio is still being speculated but WWE is likely to save that match for a future show and not insert any additional burden to the PLE Match Card.
RSN also published a projected match card for SummerSlam 2023 edition that doesn't have Logan Paul vs. Ricochet in it. At this point, Logan is scheduled to return on Raw, next week to confront Ricochet.
With already a loaded card planned for the grandest summer extravaganza, there's been a hint that this spectacular bout featuring two high-flying athletes could also be postponed. We have to wait until Raw to get confirmations around it.
Although not officially announced, the general belief is that Roman Reigns will face Jey Uso at SummerSlam 2023 in the main event capacity. More details about the match should be announced when Roman appears on SmackDown tonight.
Heading into SmackDown, a triple threat match with Bianca Belair and Charlotte Flair challenging the WWE Women's Champion Asuka is also expected to be announced with a looming threat of IYO SKY potentially cashing in her Money in the Bank contract.
The 2023 SummerSlam premium live event takes place Saturday, August 5 at the Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. As of this writing, eight matches are projected for the biggest summer PLE as given below:
- Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jey Uso for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship
