WWE: Universal Championship will not be defended at Payback PPV
New Delhi, April 9: Brock Lesnar has won the top prize of the flagship brand at this past Wrestlemania. He became the Universal champion defeating Goldberg. Since he is the title-holder, it was expected that he will start working as a full-time in the WWE.
In addition, this is going to be his last year in the company. So, the possibilities of the same were not nixed out. However, that is not going to happen as indicated by the veteran journalist Dave Meltzer.

In his report in F4WOnline.com, he stated that the reigning Universal champion will not be in action at the upcoming Payback PPV. He supported that Lesnar will out of action at least for a short span of time, for now. Hence, the prime title from Raw will not be defended at Payback.
Rather, we will crown a new number one contender for Lesnar's title at the said PPV. As per the latest speculation, Roman Reigns will square off against Braun Strowman in the main event of the PPV to determine who will challenge the beast for his title in near future.
Strowman clarified that his feud with Roman Reigns is far from over. He confronted the champion and his advocate inside the ring stating that he will shift his attention to the championship after he is done with the Big Dog. This was a clear indication that WWE is arranging pretty big plans for him in the upcoming season and he will be an integral part of the title picture.
Meltzer confirmed that Brock Lesnar is not booked for the Payback PPV. Hence, there are no chances for him to feature in an in-ring competition till the next Raw-exclusive PPV. It is going to be either the Extreme Rules or the Bad Blood PPV. This would be let known by WWE, in due course.
There are also chances that the number one contender's match at Payback would be a Fatal-4-way match. Finn Balor and Kevin Owens will be included into it since both of them are waiting for a championship opportunity. Balor did not get his rematch due to his shoulder injury whereas Owens did not claim it after Goldberg robbed him at the Fastlane PPV.
