WWE WrestleMania 40: Backstage update on The Rock’s negative role

The Road to WrestleMania 40 has been going through major turbulence as for the first-time-ever, a Royal Rumble match winner has volunteered to leave the main event spot and world championship match opportunity of his choice.

The fan-favorite Cody Rhodes left his much-deserved main event matchup against the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns to The Rock. With that, the dream bout between Rock and Reigns would become a reality but the WWE Universe isn't happy.

According to a new report by PWInsider, WWE has noticed the support that Cody has been receiving, backstage as well as the fans, and things are evident that The American Nightmare will eventually become a much bigger babyface for the company.

As for The Most Electrifying Man in all Entertainment, The Rock, the intention never has been to portray him in a negative way as he'd be going up against the biggest heel of the company, Roman Reigns.

Plus, according to the reports of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, The Rock's return has been in the works for a while and it doesn't have any connection to the sudden removal of CM Punk and Brock Lesnar from the WrestleMania card.

It was further noted that WWE had The Rock booked for the WrestleMania 40 Kickoff media event from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, months ago which means that he always was a part of the creative plans.

"They have booked T-Mobile for Thursday with Dwayne long ago. Like somebody there just mentioned it in passing. It's not like you can get T-Mobile Arena four days in advance for something we're changing. This thing is something they booked way in advance."

The Rock overshadowing Cody Rhodes' moment did garner tons of negative reactions but at the same time, it did take the attention away from the Vince McMahon-scandal in time for the WrestleMania 40 hype season.

Furthermore, the angle between The Rock and Cody Rhodes on Friday's SmackDown helped the WWE to sell a lot of extra tickets for this Monday's Raw. With more future appearances expected by The Brahma Bull, this WrestleMania season should be a smooth one for the WWE.
