Massialas's journey in fencing started early due to his father's influence. Greg Massialas not only competed in the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games but also coached the US men's national foil team. Alexander's younger sister, Sabrina, also represented the USA in team foil at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

He was also part of the first US men's foil team to win gold at the world championships in 2019 in Budapest, Hungary.
