She completed her higher education in Coaching at the Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport, Youth and Tourism in Moscow. She resides in Moscow and speaks both English and Russian. She enjoys watching football during her free time.
Throughout her career, she faced several injuries. In 2019, she tore a calf muscle which ruled her out of major competitions that year. In May 2018, she withdrew from the Osijek Challenge Cup due to a knee injury. Despite a back injury, she won three medals at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
In November 2015, she underwent knee surgery but recovered in time for the Russian national championships in April 2016. Chronic back pain ruled her out of the 2015 World Championships. A knee injury in 2011 prevented her from defending her all-around world title at the World Championships that year.
She received the Order of Friendship and the Order of Honour of the Russian Federation for her performances at the Olympic Games in 2012 and 2016. In 2012, she was named Female Athlete of the Year by the Russian Olympic Committee. She holds the title of Honoured Master of Sport in the Russian Federation.
After taking an indefinite break from competition post-2016 Olympics, she gave birth to her daughter Alisa in June 2017. She returned to training three months later but found it challenging to perform basic elements initially.
