Aliyah Abrams Biography

Abrams began competing in athletics at the age of 11. She has been associated with the University of South Carolina's team throughout her career. Known by the nickname "Double A," she has shown remarkable dedication to her sport.

Injuries and Challenges

Abrams faced several injuries during her career. In early 2017, an ankle injury prevented her from competing for the rest of the year. She missed both outdoor and indoor seasons with the University of South Carolina. Additionally, she was affected by another ankle injury between December 2013 and mid-2014.

Awards and Honours

Despite these setbacks, Abrams has received numerous accolades. In 2019, she was named Southeastern Conference (SEC) Outdoor Scholar-Athlete of the Year while competing with the University of South Carolina. In 2016, she was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and selected for the All-Academic Team by the United States Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in 2016 and 2017.

She also received the 2015 All-Metro Atlanta award and was named Runner of the Year by the Gwinnett Daily Post newspaper in Georgia, USA.

Family Ties

Abrams comes from a family with a strong athletic background. Her older sister, Jasmine Abrams, has also represented Guyana in athletics. Jasmine won a bronze medal in the 100m at the 2021 South American Championships in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Aliyah Abrams is eligible to represent Guyana through her parents. She expressed that representing Guyana is an honour and a way to show appreciation for her parents' support. "I felt it was the right thing to do," she said. "It's an honour to represent the country my parents are from."
