Andrea Fuentes Biography

Andrea practised various sports as a child, including skating and gymnastics. However, it was synchronized swimming that captured her heart. Her coach, Anna Tarres, now leads the Spanish National Team. Andrea's idols include Spanish synchronized swimmer Gemma Mengual and members of Cirque de Soleil.

Training Regime

Andrea's training is rigorous and comprehensive. She starts her day at 8:30 am with a routine that includes weights, ballet, water sessions, flamenco dance, pilates, and stretching. Her training lasts eight to ten hours daily, with Sunday as her day off. Andrea emphasises maintaining a healthy and balanced diet while avoiding fast food.

Personal Beliefs and Rituals

Andrea has several personal rituals that help her compete better. She believes her cat brings her good luck. Additionally, she practises meditation and visualization techniques. Before her turn in the water, she lies down for five minutes, stretches, and visualizes her routine to relax and focus.

Challenges and Philosophy

Andrea faced a significant challenge at birth when she almost died due to the umbilical cord being tied around her neck. She jokes that this was when she started practising apnea. Despite the challenges, she remains committed to her sport. Her philosophy is to provide art and emotion through synchronized swimming.

Role as a Mentor

In the renovation of the national team after the retirement of stars like Gemma Mengual, Andrea took on a mentoring role. Alongside Thais Henriquez, she embraced new swimmers and helped teach them. Andrea believes that while teaching rookies, one also learns from them.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, Andrea plans to continue contributing to synchronized swimming while pursuing her higher education in Sociology at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Her dedication to both academics and sports showcases her commitment to personal growth and excellence.
