Andrei Rybakou Biography

He started weightlifting in 1994. His first coach was Vasily Balakhonov. Over the years, he trained under various coaches, with Valentin Korotkin being his national coach.

Injuries and Challenges

Between 2009 and 2011, he faced persistent back injuries. These issues were a significant hurdle in his career. Despite these challenges, he continued to push forward.

Awards and Honours

In 2007, the International Weightlifting Federation named him the Best Lifter. He also holds the title of Honoured Master of Sport in Belarus, awarded in March 2011.

Controversies and Setbacks

In October 2016, the International Olympic Committee stripped him of his silver medal from the 2008 Beijing Olympics. This decision came after a retest of his sample showed traces of the banned steroid turinabol.

Earlier in 2016, he tested positive for meldonium and received a suspension. However, in April 2016, his suspension was lifted after rules on meldonium were relaxed. This change allowed minute traces of the drug in athletes' samples.
