Christou's journey in swimming began in Piraeus, Greece. He is currently affiliated with Olympiacos, a prominent club in Piraeus. Christou's most memorable sporting achievement came in 2019 when he finished eighth in the 50m backstroke at the World Championships in Gwangju, Republic of Korea. This accomplishment marked a significant milestone in his career.

He has received numerous awards and honours throughout his career. In 2015, he was honoured by the Greek Olympic Committee for winning a silver medal at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China. He received this award again in 2019 for his contributions to the sport.
