"My dad left me when I was born," he said. "Many times I thought about committing suicide. I was always told that I was useless. All this effort that I made was to move forward and to show my family that everything was possible despite all the adversity."
The athlete has faced several injuries throughout his career. In 2014, he underwent surgery on a tendon in his right shoulder. More recently, he dealt with a shoulder injury in 2023. Despite these setbacks, he continued to train and compete at the highest level.
His achievements have been recognised with numerous awards. In 2023, he received the National Sports Award in the Paralympic Sport category from the Mexican government. He also received the Jalisco State Sports Merit Award in 2022 and 2023.
Additionally, he was honoured with the Sports Merit Medal from the city of Guadalajara in 2015, 2020, and 2023. These accolades highlight his dedication and success in his sport.
The athlete credits his family as his biggest influence. Despite their struggles, they have been a source of motivation for him. His personal philosophy reflects his resilience: "I'm just a normal guy, and if in another life I was in the same body I am now, I have no doubts I'd be a winner as well."
