Artur Aleksanyan Biography

Aleksanyan made his international debut in 2011, representing Armenia. Over the years, he has earned several accolades. He won gold in the 98kg category at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, which earned him the Order for Merits to the Fatherland [first grade] from the president of Armenia. He also received the titles of Honorary Citizen of Yerevan and Gyumri.

In 2015, he secured gold at the World Championships in Las Vegas, NV, USA, and was awarded the Order for Merits to the Fatherland [second grade]. His achievements at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, where he won bronze in the 96kg category, earned him the Movses Khorenatsi medal.

Nicknamed "White Bear," Aleksanyan resides in Gyumri, Armenia. He speaks Armenian and Russian. His hobbies include playing and watching football. The most influential person in his career has been his father, Gevorg Aleksanyan. He idolises French footballer Zinedine Zidane.

Aleksanyan faced a significant challenge during the 2019 World Championships in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. He broke a rib and could not compete in the gold medal final. It took him about 40 days to return to training. Despite this setback, he remains dedicated to wrestling, stating that "Wrestling is my life."
