In the pulsating showdown between badminton stalwarts PV Sindhu and Carolina Marin at the Singapore Open 2024, the narrative of their fierce rivalry added another gripping chapter.
Despite Sindhu's valiant efforts, it was Marin who emerged triumphant after a gruelling battle that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu lost her lead of 18-15 in the final game, resulting in her defeat against her familiar opponent Carolina Marin in the pre-quarterfinals of the women's singles match.

On Thursday (May 30), the match unfolded across three games, lasting one hour and eight minutes, with Marin clinching victory with scores of 21-13, 11-21, 20-22 at the BWF World Tour Super 750 event.
Reflecting on her performance, Sindhu remarked, "I think it was anybody's game and it was a good game overall. I don't have anything to say. I think that the side I played in the third set was a bit disadvantaged. I tried to take as many points as I could and yes, I think it was just that, it was her day, and after 20 all, it's anyone's game, but yes, it was a good game."
In the game, Sindhu showed she's tough by pushing ahead when it really mattered, but Marin kept coming at her non-stop. When asked about her bond with Marin, Sindhu said, "No, I mean, it's all in the game," Sindhu stated when asked about her relationship with Marin on and off the court. "Outside the game, we're just normal friends, but on the court, both of us are competitive."
With the Paris Olympics drawing nearer, Sindhu highlighted the significance of deriving lessons from such experiences and maintaining concentration "I think since the Singapore Open is over, it's time to prepare for the next tournament," she noted. "We're coming closer to the Paris Olympics, and I think it's important that I stay positive, be focused, and learn a lot from these matches."
Discussing the inherent pressure in high-stakes matches, Sindhu acknowledged its presence while emphasizing the need to remain composed. "Pressure is always there, but it's important that we just stay calm, be prepared, be focused, and just go out there and play for ourselves," she affirmed. "It's important to just be focused and do what you can do."
Despite the disappointment of falling short against Marin, Sindhu's unwavering determination and commitment to her craft remain undiminished. As she continues her journey towards Olympic glory, each encounter serves as a stepping stone in her pursuit of excellence on badminton's grandest stage.
