Beatrice Chepkoech Biography

In 2018, Chepkoech became the first Kenyan woman to set a world record in the 3000m steeplechase. She achieved this milestone with a time of 8:44.32. This record was recognised by World Athletics on 20 July 2018.

Coaching and Training

Chepkoech's training is guided by two coaches. Gabriel Kiptonui serves as her personal coach, while Julius Kirwa is her national coach. Their combined expertise has been instrumental in her development as an elite athlete.

Impact of Diamond League Changes

In 2019, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) announced changes to the Diamond League format. The 3000m steeplechase was cut from several meetings in 2020. Additionally, it was excluded from the 90-minute live television broadcast window and the end-of-year final.

Chepkoech expressed her disappointment with these changes. She stated that this decision affects athletes who have specialised in the event. Despite this setback, she remains optimistic about her future. She mentioned that she could switch to other events like the 1500m, 3000m flat, or even a 10km road race.

Future Ambitions

Looking ahead, Chepkoech aims to win gold at the Tokyo Olympic Games. This ambition was highlighted in an interview with Reuters on 5 December 2019. Her focus on the Olympics has intensified following the changes to the Diamond League format.

Chepkoech's journey continues to inspire many in the field of athletics. Her resilience and adaptability demonstrate her commitment to achieving excellence despite challenges.
