Boryana Kaleyn Biography

Kaleyn's mother took her to a rhythmic gymnastics gym, hoping to find the right sport for her. She met her personal coach there and decided to stay. Kaleyn trains six days a week, taking Sundays off for rest. Her coaches include Branimira Markova at the national level and Mariyana Pamukova personally.

Achievements and Challenges

One of Kaleyn's most memorable achievements was competing at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. However, her career has not been without challenges. A viral illness prevented her from competing at the 2022 World Championships in Sofia. She also missed the 2022 World Cup event in Pesaro due to an ankle injury sustained at the World Challenge Cup in Pamplona.

Awards and Honours

Despite these setbacks, Kaleyn has received significant recognition. She was voted the 2021 Rhythmic Gymnast of the Year in a poll by European Gymnastics. This accolade reflects her dedication and skill in rhythmic gymnastics.

Lifting the Curse

Kaleyn faced a series of fourth-place finishes at the 2021 World Championships in Kitakyushu, Japan. However, she broke this streak by winning gold in hoop at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. She credits her coach for encouraging her to keep trying and believes this victory has lifted what she called a "curse" of fourth places.

Future Ambitions

Looking ahead, Kaleyn aims to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games. Her determination and belief in herself have been crucial in overcoming past challenges and striving for future success.

Personal Interests

Outside of gymnastics, Kaleyn enjoys painting and mountain hiking. These hobbies provide a balance to her rigorous training schedule and offer relaxation away from the gym.

Kaleyn resides in Sofia, Bulgaria, and is fluent in both Bulgarian and English. Her journey from a young gymnast to an internationally recognised athlete is a testament to her hard work and perseverance.
