In 2015 and 2016, Broben suffered from a chronic back condition that required cortisone injections. Additionally, she had an ongoing shoulder injury from July 2013. This injury required surgery in March 2014 and kept her out of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Due to her persistent shoulder injury, Broben retired from diving in October 2016. This injury also caused her to miss the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Broben was named the Most Promising New Talent by Diving Australia in 2009. Her early achievements highlighted her potential in the sport.
Brittany started gymnastics at age four and competed at state and national levels before switching to diving. She was discovered by former Olympic diver Chantelle Newberry during a national talent identification programme in Brisbane.
Broben's sporting philosophy is: "Reach for the sky, win or lose, you will still be amongst the stars." She idolises Australian divers Chantelle Newberry and Melissa Wu.
Despite her early retirement, Brittany Broben's journey in diving remains noteworthy. Her transition from gymnastics to diving and her swift rise in the sport demonstrate her talent and dedication.
