Carlos Daniel Serrano Zarate Biography

Carlito's passion for water sports was evident from a young age. Despite not knowing how to swim initially, his determination led him to excel. His parents played a crucial role in his development, providing constant support and encouragement. Carlito also draws inspiration from Colombian Para swimmer Moises Fuentes.

Training Regimen

Carlito's dedication to his sport is evident in his rigorous training schedule. He trains up to four hours a day, six days a week, totalling 12 sessions weekly. Three of these sessions are dedicated to gym workouts. This intense regimen has helped him achieve remarkable success on the international stage.

Career Milestones

Carlito's career is marked by numerous achievements. He became the first Colombian athlete to win more than one Paralympic gold medal. He triumphed in the men's SB7 100m breaststroke at both the 2016 Rio de Janeiro and 2020 Tokyo Games. Alongside fellow swimmer Nelson Crispin, he holds the record for the most Paralympic medals by any Colombian athlete.

He was also named Para Athlete of the Year by El Espectador newspaper multiple times and Sportsperson of the Year by Vanguardia in 2015. Additionally, he served as Colombia's flag bearer at the closing ceremony of the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto.

Outside of swimming, Carlito enjoys spending time with his children, Sara Luna and Daniel Mathias. His hobbies include video games and walking. Before competing, he thinks about his children and prays, which helps him stay focused and motivated.
