Ponor's dedication to gymnastics paid off when she made her international debut in 2002, representing Romania. She quickly rose to prominence, winning three gold medals at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Her performance at the 2017 European Championships in Cluj-Napoca, where she claimed gold on the beam, remains one of her most memorable achievements.

Challenges and Injuries

Throughout her career, Ponor faced several challenges. In September 2015, she suffered an incomplete tear in the calf muscle connected to her Achilles tendon, forcing her to miss the World Championships in Glasgow. She also underwent minor heart surgery in 2011 to correct a birth defect.

Retirements and Comebacks

Ponor's career has seen multiple retirements and comebacks. After winning gold at the 2006 European Championships, she retired due to knee problems. However, she returned in 2007 to help Romania secure bronze at the World Championships in Stuttgart. She retired again later that year due to medical concerns.

In 2011, Ponor made another comeback at the national championships, winning two gold medals and one silver. She retired for a third time after the 2012 Olympic Games in London but announced her return to elite gymnastics in March 2015.
