Cheung Ka Long Biography

Cheung began his journey in fencing during the fourth grade at primary school. His parents, both former basketball players, initially introduced him to basketball. However, during a long holiday break, his father suggested he try fencing to stay active. Cheung agreed after some consideration.

Training and Coaching

Cheung trains at the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) under the guidance of French coach Gregory Koenig. He is left-handed, which gives him a unique edge in competitions. His dedication to the sport has been evident since his early years.

Achievements and Honours

Cheung's list of accolades is impressive. In 2022, he was named an Outstanding Young Person by Junior Chamber International Hong Kong. He also received the titles of Male Star of the Star Athletes and Outstanding Male Athlete at the 2021 Hong Kong Outstanding Athlete Selection.

In 2021, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Hong Kong Polytechnic University following his gold medal win at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He has also been a flag bearer for Hong Kong at multiple events, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2017 National Games in China.

Cheung achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first fencer from Hong Kong to win an Olympic medal. He clinched gold in men's individual foil at the 2020 Tokyo Games.
