Cho Guham Biography

The athlete took up judo at a young age, driven by encouragement from his teacher. Despite initial resistance from his parents, he managed to gain their support. He later pursued higher education in coaching at Yong In University in Korea, further solidifying his commitment to the sport.

Challenges and Injuries

In early 2022, he was not included in the Korean national team selection for the Asian Games in Hangzhou due to a knee injury. This was not his first encounter with injuries. In April 2016, he damaged the ACL in his left knee but postponed surgery until after the Rio de Janeiro Olympics to compete. The surgery required 15 months of rehabilitation.

Before making his senior debut in 2014, he underwent multiple operations on both knees. These challenges did not deter him from pursuing his passion for judo.

Awards and Recognition

His efforts have been recognised with several awards. In 2019, he received an Encouragement Award at the Korean Sport and Olympic Committee Athletics Awards. The previous year, he was named Judoka of the Year by the Korea Judo Association.
