His most memorable sporting achievements include winning the overall cross-country title in the 2004 and 2005 World Cups. The manager of his first racing team, Bruno Diethelm, played a significant role in his career. Claudio Brusi and Keith Kettner also helped him realise his potential.
He suffered food poisoning in early January 2008. Additionally, he crashed on a slippery corner at the 2002 European Championships in Zurich, Switzerland. Despite these setbacks, he continued to excel in his sport.
In November 2000, he and other Swiss medallists from the 2000 Olympic Games were invited to Parliament House in Bern to celebrate their performances. He described the invitation as a big honour, noting that even former IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch was present.
Looking ahead, he aims to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games. This ambition drives him to continue training and competing at the highest level.
During the European winter, he trains in Stellenbosch, South Africa. He and Burry Stander participated in the 2008 ABSA Cape Epic to raise money for the JAG Sports and Education Foundation. They aimed to build a BMX track in Kayamandi to help keep local children off the streets.
"I'm proud and excited," he said about the project. "I can see the benefit it brings to the community. I look forward to riding with the kids and taking part in their development."
Outside of cycling, he enjoys skiing, outdoor activities, visiting different countries, reading, and snowboarding. His diverse interests reflect his well-rounded personality.
