Corey Cogdell Biography

Cogdell-Unrein's parents encouraged her to explore various activities. She tried archery and air pistol before discovering her love for shooting clay targets. "I liked the fact that I got to see something blow up instead of poking a hole in the target," she said. Her passion for the sport grew as she participated in shotgun shooting with 4H.

Training and Coaching

Under the guidance of national coach Todd Graves, Cogdell-Unrein follows a rigorous training regime. "When I’m in training mode I shoot 100 to 250 shells, six days per week," she explained. Her training also includes drills, workouts, and sessions with a sports psychologist to maintain focus.

Philosophy and Approach

Her sporting philosophy reflects her understanding of the challenges unique to shooting sports. "Nothing can really prepare you for the Olympics," she noted. The pressure of performing well on a single day without second chances sets shooting apart from many other sports.

Personal Life and Influence

Cogdell-Unrein is married to NFL player Mitch Unrein. She believes that her marriage has positively influenced her approach to shooting. "It's given me a kind of freedom to go out and compete just for me," she said. This shift in perspective has allowed her to focus on personal goals rather than external pressures.

Break and Return

In 2014, Cogdell-Unrein took a year off from international competition. Upon her return in 2015, she felt more mature both mentally and technically. "I'm now shooting better than I ever have," she stated. Her improved approach has also enabled her to mentor younger shooters.

Shooting Clinics

Cogdell-Unrein holds shooting clinics to teach young potential shooters about the sport. She believes that shooting offers valuable life lessons, such as controlling emotions and concentrating on attainable goals. "When they're shooting they're really doing something," she emphasized.

Other Ventures

Apart from her athletic career, Cogdell-Unrein has ventured into business by creating a company that customises sports jerseys with embellishments and crystals. She also appeared on several television shows in the US, including Cabela's Ultimate Adventures and Outdoor Guide.

Future Plans
