3rd Test, Day 2: Windies off to a good start in response to India's 353

Gros Islet, Aug 10: The West Indies took off to a decent start against India in their first innings on day two of the third Test against India after hosts skittled visitors out for 353 in their first innings on day two of the third Test match at the Darren Sammy National Cricket stadium here on Wednesday (Aug 10).

The hosts lost just one wicket in the 47 overs they played against visitors and were 107/1 at stumps on Day 2. The only wicket the West Indies side lost was that of opener Leon Johnson (23) who was ran out by a brilliant throw from KL Rahul.

Opener Kraig Brathwaite slammed his tenth Test fifty off 142 balls while Darren Bravo is batting on unbeaten 18 (67 balls).

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the most economical of Indian bowlers who bowled 11 overs and conceded just 11 runs at one run per over. Indians bowled well but the West Indies batsmen didn't take much chances and played cautiously.

Earlier, riding on valiant centuries from all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin (118) and stumper Wriddhiman Saha (104), India recovered from the early jolts they received on the opening day.

The right-handed duo forged together a 213-run stand for the sixth wicket before debutant pacer Alzarri Joseph managed to separate them with the wicket of Saha caught behind by keeper Shane Dowrich.

From there on, West Indies managed to snare the last four wickets within just 14 runs.

Earlier in the day, Ashwin smashed his Test career's fourth Test century, all coming against West Indies, with a six. His partner at the other end, Saha also slammed his maiden Test hundred as India continued piling runs against West Indies bowler.

Continuing from their overnight score of 234/5 with top scorer Ashwin and Saha frustrated the hosts on Day 2 as India went on post 350-plus runs in the first innings.

All efforts by the Caribbean captain Janson Holder to break the partnership did not succeed despite using six bowlers, including spinner Roston Chase and part-timer Kraig Braithwaite.

Earlier on Day 1, India was struggling till tea session with only 130 for 5 wickets on board. But Ashwin and Saha steered the Indian innings out of trouble waters and gave visitors a respectable total.
