4th Test: Bowlers bowl from 'Viru 319' and 'Viru 309' Ends at Feroz Shah Kotla

New Delhi, Dec 3: The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) today (December 3) came up with a novel idea to pay tributes to one of the famous sons of Delhi and Indian cricket - Virender Sehwag.

With India and South Africa playing the 4th and final Test of the series at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, DDCA named both Ends as "Viru 319 End" and "Viru 309 End" (replacing Stadium End, Pavilion End) as a respect to Sehwag, who recently retired from international cricket. Kotla is Sehwag's home ground.

The numbers 319 (against South Africa in Chennai, 2008) and 309 (versus Pakistan in Multan, 2004) are Sehwag's 2 highest scores in Test cricket. He is the only Indian to have scored triple hundreds.

He also has a score of 293 (against Sri Lanka in Mumbai, 2009). India's top 3 highest individual scores are in his name.

Also, DDCA put up 'Thank You Viru' banners at the ground as India batted first in the 4th Test. Prior to the start of the match, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) honoured the 37-year-old Sehwag.

Sehwag took to Twitter to thank DDCA for the tributes on his home ground. "Thanks to DDCA for this", he wrote referring to "Viru 319 End".

The right-hander retired in October this year, scoring over 17,000 international runs. He played 104 Tests, 251 ODIs and 19 T20Is.
