Australia needed the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side to overcome Afghanistan to progress to the knockout stage. However, Bangladesh struggled to chase the paltry target and lost.

Afghanistan failed to set a formidable total, managing only 115/5 in their allotted 20 overs after choosing to bat first. Despite the modest target, Afghanistan's bowlers were up to the task, successfully defending the revised target of 114 runs in 19 overs.

They bowled out Bangladesh for 105 in 17.5 overs, securing victory with seven balls to spare. Liton Das was the standout batter for Bangladesh, remaining unbeaten on 54 off 49 balls, but he lacked support from his teammates in a rain-interrupted game that saw multiple DLS revisions.

Naveen-ul-Haq emerged as the hero for Afghanistan, taking wickets on consecutive deliveries to seal the historic win. His exceptional performance, which included four crucial wickets, earned him the Player of the Match award.

The right-arm pacer's efforts sparked jubilant celebrations among the Afghan players and their dedicated fans, who had been on the edge of their seats throughout the rain-affected contest.

The Afghanistan cricket team, which has faced numerous challenges and hardships over the years, has now taken a giant leap in world cricket. Their journey in this tournament has been nothing short of remarkable, with notable victories over New Zealand in their opening game and a formidable Australia in the Super 8 stage. This hard work and resilience have paid off as they now prepare to face South Africa in the first semifinal.

Tears welled up in the eyes of players, support staff, and fans alike as Afghanistan secured a spectacular win. This victory comes after facing ridicule for daring to dream of defeating cricket giants. Fans, who travelled across the globe to cheer on their team, witnessed a superlative effort that silenced the naysayers and propelled Afghanistan into the semi-finals.

Celebrations have already begun across Afghanistan, with fans hoping their team in light blue can continue their winning run all the way to the final. Credit must also be given to coach Jonathan Trott and his support staff, who have played a crucial role in the team's development and success.

As Afghanistan gears up for the semifinals, the cricketing world watches with admiration and anticipation, eager to see if this determined team can complete their fairytale journey with a World Cup triumph.
